Peter Shaplen is a nationally renowned, award-winning journalist and successful business executive whose work has transcended from traditional to cutting edge media. In a career spanning almost 40 years, he has produced and reported stories airing on network news & cable stations, on corporate websites & boardrooms, even the Broadway stage.
Peter is often engaged for message, media and crisis management for corporate level executives at F500 companies, business executives and government managers, utilities engaged in crisis drills, and individuals preparing both corporate presentations and congressional testimony. His experience, in front of and behind the camera, is pivotal in successfully coaching corporate executives & business managers as well as broadcasters to improve their delivery, manage their content and become most effective messengers.
News and production assignments range from across the country and around the world from breaking news to long-form features for ABC, CBS, CNBC, Court TV and FOX News, including national elections and Presidential trips; business meltdowns, coup d’etat in Central American and Asian revolutions; civil disturbances; papal, royal and state visits; and the Olympic Games. He has been the media pool producer for high profile trials including the Scott Peterson murder, Michael Jackson molestation & OJ Simpson armed robbery trials. Among corporate clients he currently reports and produces Executive Thought Leadership podcasts for Cisco. As a pioneer during the tech era, Shaplen built, led and managed the ON24 Financial News Network as Vice President of News & Production and News Director. National honors and recognition include a Mark Twain award from the Associated Press and a Special Award from the Radio-TV News Directors Association; program honors and awards have come from the San Francisco Film Festival and Sundance Film Festival. Corporate projects have garnered numerous Aegis, Cine, Communicator, Mercury, Questar, Summit and Telly Awards.
Shaplen has lectured at the Annenberg School of Communications at the University of Southern California, UCLA and Stanford and taught Journalism Ethics at San Francisco State University. Currently he is an adjunct Instructor at the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University as well as Instructor in multimedia writing and production at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.
Though it may have faded from memory… FCI was named “Socially Responsible Entrepreneur of the Year” by INC. I think your contribution as VP was key to that and so many other honors. Worth a mention in your bio… at least, that’s what this old broad thinks.
